Information Provided Directly
Search requests
A name, place, or similar term entered into a search tool is passed to the third-party provider that operates that tool. The Lunenburg County Busted Mugshots service does not store or log those search terms on its own systems. The provider's handling of a query is governed by that provider's privacy terms and practices.
Messages sent to us
Information included in an email or contact submission may be kept so the message can be read and answered. It is used for that communication and is not shared outside ordinary operating functions unless disclosure is required by law or a valid legal process.
Visit and Device Details
When a browser loads a page, technical information may be collected automatically to operate, measure, and protect the service. That information can include:
- The internet protocol address associated with the visit.
- The browser name and version.
- The device type and operating system.
- Pages viewed and the time spent on them.
- The referring website or link, when one is supplied.
- Dates and times connected with page requests.
Cookies and similar tools
Cookies may be used to understand how visitors use the service and to support ordinary site functions. A browser can be set to block or remove cookies. If cookies are blocked, some features or connected services may respond differently.
How Information Is Used
Information is used for practical service, measurement, and security purposes, including the following:
- Keeping the service available and improving page performance.
- Sending search requests to the appropriate partner service.
- Understanding which pages visitors find useful.
- Detecting, investigating, and correcting technical problems.
- Displaying advertising that may be based on interests.
Outside Services and Links
The service links to official jail lookup pages, sheriff and corrections sources, court portals, other government resources, and third-party search tools. After a visitor follows an outside link, that destination's privacy policy and data practices control. The operator does not control those independent services.
Some advertising partners may collect activity across websites to deliver interest-based advertisements on their own systems. Those partners do not make the Lunenburg County Busted Mugshots service an official record custodian. When a public office is linked for a records request, that office's own process applies. Virginia's Freedom of Information Act governs requests to public bodies, not the private service's handling of visitor information.
When Data May Be Shared
Personal information is not sold. It may be disclosed to the following recipients when needed for the purposes described in this policy:
- Search partners that process submitted queries.
- Analytics providers that help measure site use.
- Advertising networks that serve or measure advertisements.
- Law-enforcement agencies or government bodies responding under a valid legal order.
Security Limits
Reasonable practices are used to protect information handled by the service. No internet-connected system can be guaranteed fully secure, however, and no practice can eliminate every risk of unauthorized access, loss, or disclosure.
Visitors Under 18
The service is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If information from a minor was submitted, a deletion request may be made through the available contact channel so the matter can be reviewed.
Choices About Your Data
Subject to applicable law and the information actually held, a visitor may ask to:
- Receive a copy of personal information held by the operator.
- Correct personal information believed to be inaccurate.
- Request deletion of personal information.
- Opt out of certain processing where that option is available.
A request should identify the information involved and the action sought. Requests are considered in light of applicable legal obligations and the need to protect other users and the service.
Policy Revisions
Privacy practices can change as the service, connected providers, or legal requirements change. A revised version will be posted here with an updated effective date. Continued use after a revision is posted indicates acceptance of the updated policy.
